Mustafizur signs with Melbourne Renegades for BBL 2026-27

In a major boost to their bowling attack, the Melbourne Renegades have signed veteran Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman for the 2026-27 Big Bash League season. The move marks a significant milestone in Mustafizur’s storied T20 career, as he prepares to make his debut appearance in Australia’s premier domestic franchise competition.
Filling a Crucial Void
The signing comes after the Renegades suffered a major pre-season blow with veteran left-arm seamer Jason Behrendorff ruled out for the entire season due to a shoulder injury. Seeking to preserve the lethal variety of a high-caliber left-arm option, the franchise turned to Mustafizur.
With 331 T20 matches under his belt and 423 wickets to his name across various leagues and international fixtures worldwide, the 31-year-old brings an elite blend of international experience and dynamic bowling variation to the Renegades' setup.
Welcome Words from the Camp
New Melbourne Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi expressed immense delight in securing the Bangladesh quick, who joins high-profile overseas stars Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell in the squad.
"Mustafizur is a proven match-winner in T20 cricket all over the world. His ability to take wickets in both the powerplay and at the death is exactly what we wanted in our attack."
— Luke Ronchi, Renegades Head Coach
Mustafizur was equally eager about the opportunity to play in Australia and run out in front of the Melbourne crowd:
"I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades. It will be special to play at the MCG as my home ground and I'm excited to join my team-mates and bring my experience to the squad."
— Mustafizur Rahman
Availability and Key Fixtures
While Mustafizur will miss the Renegades' opening fixture against the Perth Scorchers in Chennai due to prior commitments in the International League T20 (ILT20), he is scheduled to join the squad shortly after.
Fans can expect him in action during early January for key marquee home fixtures at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground:
January 1: Melbourne Renegades vs. Sydney Sixers (MCG)
January 4: Melbourne Renegades vs. Melbourne Stars (MCG - Melbourne Derby)
Shifting Landscape of BBL Overseas Stars
Mustafizur’s signing arrives amidst a flurry of international player movements across the BBL. In another notable marquee signing, Pakistan’s fast-bowling sensation Haris Rauf recently inked a deal with the Adelaide Strikers, ending his long-standing association with the Melbourne Stars.
With Mustafizur set to display his signature off-cutters and deadly death bowling on Australian pitches, the Melbourne Renegades have reinforced their credentials as serious contenders for the BBL 2026-27 title.
