New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has injected a wealth of international experience into the White Ferns setup ahead of their upcoming T20I tour of Australia. Former stalwarts Martin Guptill and Andre Adams have been named to the coaching staff, stepping in to support interim head coach Dean Brownlie as the team prepares to face one of the world's best. The appointments come as a crucial reinforcement following back surgery for assistant coach Craig McMillan, who is currently recovering. Guptill will take on the role of specialist batting and fielding support, bringing his legendary white-ball expertise to a talented squad. Meanwhile, Andre Adams—currently the Otago Volts assistant coach who recently added a stint with the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred to his resume—returns to the national women's setup as an assistant to Brownlie, having previously toured with the team in 2017 and 2023. Fresh Voices and Familiar Faces Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Guptill, who boasts 367 international appearances between 2009 and 2022, noted that he is eager to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of players. He emphasized that helping add extra tools to the players' games and supporting their overall growth is something he takes immense pride in. Adams echoed similar sentiments about returning to the White Ferns environment. Having played 47 times for New Zealand primarily in ODI cricket between 2001 and 2007, the medium-pace-bowling allrounder highlighted the unique pride and special culture within the team. He stressed that testing themselves against top-tier competition like Australia presents an exciting challenge for the squad. Transition Under Brownlie and a Tough Test Ahead The coaching reshuffle accompanies a period of transition for the White Ferns. Dean Brownlie, a former New Zealand men's top-order batter, took over the head coaching duties in an interim capacity following the departure of long-time head coach Ben Sawyer in September. Brownlie's interim tenure begins with a high-stakes three-match T20I series against Australia, all scheduled to be played at the North Sydney Oval. The squad is set to depart for Australia on October 12, with a warm-up fixture against a Governor-General's XI slated for October 25, alongside the official T20I encounters on October 18, October 20, and October 22. New Zealand T20I Squad for the Australia Tour Captain: Melie Kerr Players: Eden Carson, Flora Devonshire, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis (wk), Bella James, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Nensi Patel, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, and Izzy Sharp. With a blend of seasoned coaching expertise and a formidable squad led by Melie Kerr, the White Ferns will look to make a strong statement across the Tasman later this month.
