Pandey, Harris and Yastika give Knight Riders opening-night win

Trinbago Knight Riders kicked off their Women’s Caribbean Premier League campaign with a statement 21-run victory over defending champions Barbados Tridents at Bridgetown, fueled by a fiery opening stand from Laura Harris and Yastika Bhatia alongside a brilliant bowling spell from Shikha Pandey. Harris and Yastika Set the Stage After Tridents captain Hayley Matthews opted to field, Trinbago Knight Riders came out firing. Laura Harris and Yastika Bhatia orchestrated a blistering 67-run opening partnership in just 5.4 overs, thoroughly dismantling the Tridents' frontline attack. Harris was the primary aggressor, smashing 38 off just 19 deliveries, while Yastika added a fluent 35 off 28 balls. Following the fiery start, Knight Riders captain Deandra Dottin added a steadying 26 before the innings stalled. Qiana Joseph led the Tridents' fightback with left-arm spin, taking 3 for 27, while Matthews and Suzie Bates picked up two wickets apiece. A middle-order collapse dragged Knight Riders from 93 for 1 to 133 for 6, but Madeline Penna’s crucial 27 off 21 balls pushed the final total to a competitive 155 before they were bowled out on the final ball. Pandey’s exceptional 3 for 17 earned her the Player-of-the-Match award, supported effectively by Samara Ramnath (2 for 16) and Dottin (2 for 24). Tridents crumbled from a comfortable position to 134 all out in 18.4 overs, exposing a lack of lower-order depth and giving Trinbago Knight Riders the ideal start to the tournament.
