Orla Prendergast, Georgia Elwiss seal knockouts place for The Blaze

The Blaze kept their powerhouse season firmly on track, securing a place in the Metro Bank Women's One-Day Cup knockout stage with a convincing 70-run victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Driven by half-centuries from Orla Prendergast and Georgia Elwiss, The Blaze notched their eleventh win in 13 matches while leaving Warwickshire stuck in a tight race for top-four qualification. After being put in to bat, The Blaze weathered an early setback when former Warwickshire favourite Marie Kelly was dismissed in the opening over, slicing an Issy Wong delivery to third. Openers Tammy Beaumont and Kathryn Bryce steadied the innings with a cautious start, adding 80 runs off 17 overs before Phoebe Brett broke the partnership by removing both batters within 12 balls. The momentum shifted sharply once Prendergast and Elwiss teamed up in the middle. The duo launched a rapid assault on the bowling, raising their respective half-centuries off 64 and 54 balls. Their crucial 93-run partnership off 18 overs pushed The Blaze into a commanding position. Despite a brilliant five-wicket haul from England fast bowler Issy Wong (5-58)—who eventually removed both set batters—a late 12-ball cameo of 19 not out from Emma Jones propelled The Blaze to an impressive 282 for 7. In response, Warwickshire got off to a rocky start as former player Grace Ballinger trapped Davina Perrin lbw and had Meg Austin caught at slip early on. However, skipper Katie George and Brooke Halliday rebuilt the chase with composure, putting on a brilliant 125-run stand over 22 overs. By the 30th over, Warwickshire were cruising at 148 for 2 and looked poised to mount a genuine threat. But the turn of the match arrived when Halliday, fresh off a 64-ball fifty, pulled Prendergast toward deep midwicket, where Kathryn Bryce took an acrobatic catch right on the rope to deny a six. Once the partnership was broken, Warwickshire collapsed rapidly. Charis Pavely fell similarly, caught by Lucy Higham, before Charley Phillips tied down the middle order with an economical spell of 1 for 17 from eight overs. Higham then dismantled the lower order with a lethal spell, taking three wickets in just nine balls to finish with figures of 4 for 41. Katie George's valiant 89 came to an end when she chipped a return catch back to Kathryn Bryce, wrapping up Warwickshire's innings at 212 in 43.3 overs. The result firmly cements The Blaze's postseason ambitions while leaving Warwickshire to fight out the remaining group fixtures.
