Adams back to Hampshire with a bang after contract extension

Georgia Adams wasted no time proving why Hampshire handed her a fresh two-year contract extension, putting on a sublime all-round display to lead her side to a dominant four-wicket victory over Surrey at Guildford. Fresh off her Player of the Match performance in Trent Rockets' Hundred final triumph, the Hampshire captain returned to county duty in scintillating form. Adams picked up 3 for 40 with her off-spin before blasting a magnificent 115 off 103 balls to keep Hampshire’s hopes alive for an automatic spot in next month’s final at the Utilita Bowl. Surrey got off to a flying start after being put in to bat, with openers Rachel King (45) and Alice Monaghan capitalizing on short-pitched bowling to put Hampshire on the back foot. However, Adams swung the momentum back in Hampshire's favor by dismissing King with a sharp caught-and-bowled and coaxing Monaghan into a miscue the following over. Australian leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington then ripped through the heart of Surrey’s batting order, tearing through the middle overs to finish with impressive figures of 4 for 37. Despite a fighting 61 from Alice Davidson-Richards, Surrey were eventually bowled out for 228. Hampshire’s chase began with absolute intent. Adams and Ella McCaughan raced out of the blocks, raising the team's 50 in just 46 deliveries. Though Hampshire lost McCaughan, Abi Norgrove, and Francesca Sweet in quick succession to slip to a minor wobble, Adams remained utterly unbothered at the other end. Reaching her half-century at a rapid pace, the skipper unleashed an array of glorious strokes. She hoisted Sune Luus over straight long-on for six and dispatched the seamers to all parts of the ground. Adams struck 15 boundaries, securing her century with a delicate cut down to third off Dani Gregory. By the time Adams was finally dismissed, the target was well within reach. Nancy Harman saw the team safely over the line with an unbeaten 37, wrapping up the win with 51 balls to spare on an unforgettable day for Hampshire’s captain.
